Van Ness Feldman Announces New Partners & Principal

Van Ness Feldman is pleased to announce the election of four new Partners and one new Principal to the firm’s membership: Patrick Daugherty, Tyson Kade, Sara Leverette, Phil Mone, and Jordan Smith.

“We are delighted to welcome each of these colleagues as members of the firm.  Clients appreciate the energy and rigor these individuals bring to their representations and have come to rely upon each of them for their expertise,” commented Co-Chair Nancy McNally.  “They are an integral part of the firm’s future.”

Patrick Daugherty is an experienced litigator who helps clients navigate complex civil and administrative litigation across the country.  He provides counsel to companies facing investigations from government agencies and also has worked with Native American Tribes and tribal regulators pursuing economic development opportunities on tribal land.  Patrick previously served as a prosecutor in the White Collar Fraud unit of the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office, conducting jury trials and related appellate litigation.  Patrick is based in our Washington, DC office.

Tyson Kade represents clients on permitting and regulatory compliance, litigation, and federal policy matters involving natural resources, energy, and environmental law.  He has substantial experience counseling project developers, utilities, trade associations, Alaska Native corporations, governmental entities, and others on issues arising under the Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, and Clean Water Act.  Tyson is based in our Washington, DC office.

Sara Leverette represents clients on permitting and litigation related to energy infrastructure development, clean-up sites, and dangerous waste permitting.  She has substantial experience with utility facility permitting, endangered species regulation, the Washington State Environmental Policy Act and the National Environmental Policy Act, the Model Toxics Control Act, clean water regulation, complex environmental litigation, and environmental, health, and safety compliance matters in Alaska and Washington State.  Sara is based in our Seattle, Washington office.

Phil Mone represents clients in the natural gas pipeline and electric utility industries before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and federal appellate courts.  Phil specializes in advising and representing clients in ratemaking and rate-related litigation before FERC’s administrative law judges, as well as rulemaking proceedings and confidential investigations.  Previously, Phil served as a Trial Attorney at FERC, representing the Office of Administrative Litigation.  Phil is based in our Washington, DC office.

Jordan Smith provides public policy advice and representation on federal legislative and regulatory issues, with special emphasis on energy, environmental, natural resource, and healthcare matters.  He offers advocacy, strategic planning, and political communication expertise on issues related to the Endangered Species Act, land and water resource matters, next-generation advanced climate technologies, healthcare policy, and the federal budget and appropriations processes.  Jordan’s experience includes developing and leading education and advocacy coalitions central to some of the most challenging public policy debates in the U.S. and across the globe.  He has a proven track record designing and implementing public relations strategies for diverse memberships and constituencies.  Jordan is based in our Washington, DC office.
