James specializes in natural resource and environmental permitting, with a primary focus on renewable energy generation facilities and transmission infrastructure. He leverages his expertise in federal and state regulatory schemes to deliver pragmatic and effective results for both private and public sector clients. James guides clients through compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Washington’s State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA), the federal Clean Water Act (CWA), and Washington’s Water Pollution Control Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). His experience spans advising clients on site selection and feasibility, permitting, and defending development proposals through administrative and judicial appeals. James draws on his scientific background to effectively navigate the nuances of environmental impacts and mitigation.
Prior to joining the firm, James practiced environmental, land use, and real estate law with a Seattle-based national law firm.
When he isn’t working, James enjoys playing outside with his family, riding his bike, and hiking around on the Pacific Northwest’s many volcanoes.
