Join VNF Partner Brian Zagon for his panel, "The Future is Now -- Precedent-Setting PFAS Regulations and Implications for Treatment." This presentation will provide an update on recent proposed per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) regulations in California and other states. Several examples of state legislative and regulatory approaches to addressing PFAS will be described, including an approach taken by the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board in a draft National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) general permit. If the draft permit is adopted, it could set a precedent as the first NPDES permit in the state to establish numeric effluent limits for PFAS. The topic of PFAS regulation is inextricably linked to practical considerations of treatment technology performance and analytical method limitations.
