Van Ness Feldman Again Named As Leading Emissions Trading Law Firm

February 26, 2010

Firm Also Gets High Marks for its Work in Voluntary Carbon Markets

Washington, DCVan Ness Feldman, a leading energy law and public policy firm, was recognized for the third time as a top U.S. law firm for emissions trading in an annual survey conducted by Environmental Finance magazine. The 10th annual survey evaluated more than 1,500 leading banks, brokers and service providers working in global emissions markets.

“This award is recognition of the excellent policy and transactional work our team has done on behalf of our clients during the last year,” said Kyle Danish, partner and head of the firm’s Climate Change and Emissions Trading practice. “As the world moves towards tighter restrictions on carbon, our expertise in trading and knowledge of climate policy will continue to help our clients plan for and capitalize on new opportunities.”

The survey ranked Van Ness Feldman as runner-up for the Best Law Firm in the North American Mandatory Markets for 2009. Companies were ranked based on efficiency and speed of transaction; reliability; innovation; quality of information; and service provided and influence on the market.

In a separate Environmental Finance survey, Van Ness Feldman also received top honors for its work in voluntary carbon markets.  The firm was voted runner-up in the magazine’s first Voluntary Carbon Market Survey.  Hundreds of voters who have had direct experience with Van Ness Feldman’s Climate Change practice chose the firm as a leader in the field.

As one of the first law firms to form a climate change practice in the mid-1990s, Van Ness Feldman assists clients to develop business strategies to manage their risks and opportunities from emerging U.S. state, federal, and international regulations. The firm is currently lead counsel for the Coalition for Emission Reduction Projects, a group of companies advocating for the availability of carbon offsets in a U.S. system regulating greenhouse gas emissions.  The Coalition includes companies from the energy, manufacturing, financial, and agricultural sectors.
