Asha Venkataraman assists clients with matters relating to natural gas, electricity, and the environment.  Since joining the firm, Ms. Venkataraman has provided counsel regarding Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) proceedings and compliance concerning the Natural Gas Act and its implications in electric transmission permitting, siting, and rate cases.  She has assisted in advocacy efforts designed to improve the Endangered Species Act through administrative and legislative action.  Ms. Venkataraman also advises clients on matters involving compliance with reliability standards enforced by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and regional reliability entities.

Professional Background

While attending law school, Ms. Venkataraman served as a legal intern for Defenders of Wildlife, where she drafted comments on administrative rulemakings, endangered species listings, habitat designations and resource protection, and helped to author Freedom of Information Act requests and appeals. 

Ms. Venkataraman also interned for the Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight in the U.S. House of Representatives, helping to coordinate hearings on the effects of climate change on the polar bear and researching the application of federal statutes.
