Helping Veterans Preserve Their History
The National Veterans Technology Consortium
January 1, 2008
Van Ness Feldman continues to manifest its commitment to support the troops that help to keep our country a free and strong nation. In the 2009 Omnibus Appropriations bill, our firm helped win $1.2 million in appropriations for The National Veterans Technology Consortium (NVTC), a coalition of firms owned by service-disabled veterans.
The NVTC member firms will use the appropriated funds to hire disabled veterans to digitize the Army's records of World War II soldiers killed in action. In addition to providing much needed employment opportunities and job training in the information technology sector for disabled veterans, the project will preserve these important records, which are in danger of disintegrating from age and use.
Associate Shay Miller, herself a former U.S. Army officer, in the words of Van Ness Feldman chairman, Howard Feldman, an “Army of one,” pulled together a bipartisan Congressional coalition to support NVTC's funding request. A determined, dedicated advocate for disabled veterans, Shay also developed working relationships with officials in the Army office responsible for the World War II records and obtained their support for the project.
Government relations professionals Ben McMakin and Chris Bohanon assisted Shay to position the NVTC program with Congressional leaders.
