Van Ness Feldman's Kyle Danish Quoted in Point Carbon Article on Kerry-Lieberman Bill

May 18, 2010

In a Point Carbon article on the restrictions of over-the-counter derivatives in the Kerry-Lieberman Bill, Kyle Danish commented on the difficulty of trading and clearing carbon offsets on an exchange under the Bill.  He said, "It could be very restrictive if all offset products have to be cleared on exchanges."  While pointing out that offsets are difficult to standardize for clearing on an exchange, he says, "It would be hard to assess how to evaluate what clearing requirements would apply (to offsets)."
